We seal our samples with the exact same product and technique as the final piece - so you get the real finish in your hand.
Why not just send it raw?
Raw concrete is porous. Air sits at the surface and scatters light back before it reaches the pigment, so an unsealed sample reads paler and hazier than the finished piece — sometimes two or three shades, more on a dark colour than a light one. Send a raw sample and you'd be choosing a colour you won't actually get.
What does sealing change?
The sealer fills those surface pores with a resin close to the same refractive index as the cement paste. Light reaches the pigment instead of bouncing off air pockets, and the colour reads as it really is — the same reason a wet pebble looks richer than a dry one.
Does the sample match the worktop exactly?
As close as we can get it. We seal every sample with the same sealer, at the same stage, as the finished piece — currently SureCrete XS-327 — because the two aren't interchangeable: change the sealer and the colour shifts again, sometimes by a lot. Keep it constant and what's in your hand is what turns up in your kitchen.
